“Where’s the closing party? Or maybe a closing ceremony?” We have a different one in our mind. Instead of a party, we pay a visit to our old friends in YAKKUM rehabilitation centre. We were very happy to see them and they welcome us enthusiastically as we arrived. Most of them have gone back to their family, due to Christmas and New Year Holliday. After we ask them how they are doing and exchange stories of their activities and conditions, we started to make a simple workshop of one stop animation for the children. Seven children were interested to join the workshop and we give them an example on making the animation from clay, which then processed with simple free animation software.

We have nothing-official happening in this day. Our activities are mainly routines in organizing the festivals programs. One of us got an invitation from his old friends to come and visit Siung beach. It is located in Wonosari, South district of Yogyakarta, approximately 2 hours by car from our office. We all left quite late from HONF-lab. It was around midnight and 13 people left together with adequate preparation. We all felt it is time for us to taste a bit of nature to recharge ourselves and we are curious because we never seen this beach before. A typical HONF picnic!

On one day, a scientist found a sophisticated innovation in the world of biotechnology. He managed to find a serum that can make it into a big plant immediately consume CO2. The discovery was made much more rapid plant large, and with a short time, the village where they live in was turned into the woods. We were invited to a party in one of the best club in Yogyakarta. It wasn’t the first invitation from them that we received; we’ve been there for a couple of times before. There wasn’t any particular or special reason for us to go there either; we just wanted to have a fun together with friends after several days working nonstop for the festival. After the cellsKID program, off we go to the party. |

“Listen Up Children, today all of you will figure out a character and make them a Wayang.” On today session, we are preparing ourselves for a puppet performance tomorrow. We prepare a story for the children and we asked them to make a character and a building that they would like to create. The character must relate to the building. To simplify the process, we short-listed what types of character and building they would like to create. After they all figure out what they’re going to make, they started to make it.
Some of us went for shopping for the materials that was needed for the performance tomorrow. When we look for a bamboo stick that is going to be used as a handle for the Wayang, we visited a traditional bamboo maker near HONF-lab. The craftsman there is an old man, he’ was very helpful and giving us a special price after knowing what our intention in using the bamboo for. He himself is a fan of Semar, a Wiseman character in Wayang puppet that is also considered as a guardian spirit of Java.
Just like yesterday, they came early to HONF-lab at 1.30 PM. They are enthusiastic to know that the performance day is coming and after they saw the Wayang performance that was performed by the children in Tokyo, they can wait to get started. We prepare them some paper, marker and glue and a while after they started, the front of HONF-lab already turn out in to a mess. It was a very long workshop, as the children have also to be helped in the Wayang making. We give them a break at 5.30PM and they came again at 6.30 after they take shower and eat at their home. We prepare the stages for them to perform and we satisfied on how they look. When the clock reached 7. 30 we told the children to finish up, as we don’t want them to be worn out for tomorrow performance. “Bedtime children! Shadow up the sunshine in your bedroom, and see you tomorrow!”

On our night session, it was the Microbiology students turn to give a workshop about Hemocytometer. They sent two representatives to HONFlab and they were very enthusiastic to give a presentation to us. It seems the last laboratory works in Microbiology creates a motivation for them to develop the DIY Webcam Microscope. As we mentioned in our latest session, we need more knowledge about Hemocytometer to further develop it.
